Can you imagine if I were to jump in my car and decide to drive to California? I point my car west and drive... no map, no GPS, just a general direction. I would probably get there, but it would not be the most effective method.
That is the same idea behind a curriculum map. It helps you find your way. It helps you to know you are on the right track. Can you take detours? Absolutely! But you HAVE to know where you are going BEFORE you start the car!

Read Aloud Suggestions
Whether you are following our Guiding Readers Series or not, you can still use these text suggestions to have meaningful and deep discussions in your classroom. It just takes some planning, but starting with a great book helps! If you don't have the time to invest in the planning, don't worry! We have done it for you. You can see these units HERE.
Writer's Workshop Mentor Text Suggestions
We believe that authors learn about writing by studying the work of other authors. Deedee Wills and I have compiled a list of books that work perfectly as mentor texts for kindergarten and first grade. We spell out how to use these books in our writer's workshop units if you need some support.
